Children Need Both Parents

The Community Forum to Voice and Address Issues Affecting the Family

Hi, I am pretty new here and just looking for those who have dealt with Michigan courts. I live in Ottawa Co on the west side of Michigan. For those who knew Ron Smith I offer my heartfelt condolences. I had just received a message from him when I joined and the next day he passed away. I am sorry that I hadn't got a chance to know him.

I too am from Michigan. I had office space in the Terrace Plaza building in Muskegon and also in Grand Rapids and other locations in Western Michigan. Now I do an Internet talk radio show where we discuss issues surrounding the Family Court and more. It is called "GET OFF THE BENCH" at http://www.getyourjusticelive.com and I have a blog about these issues at http://www.familycourtreports.com/serendipity

Thanks for joining the community. Many of us are going to The Celebration of Ronald Smith in Grand Rapids at Abundant Life Ministries on September 17, 2008 at 6PM

I would love to know what the DC rally is all about. Also, the event in lansing on the 23rd? I work every other weekend night shift and unfortunately Sept 17 is my weekend to work. It sounds like Ron touched a lot of lives, took a lousy situation and made some good out of it.

Hello Colleen and welcome to the group!

I am also from Michigan, although we're on opposite sides of the state. My husband and I love taking trips out to Manistee though, which isn't too far from you is it? It's a beautiful area of the state, that is for sure!

Anyway, if you ever feel like chatting or you just need someone to vent on, I'm always around so feel free to contact me.

Again, Welcome and I look forward to seeing you around!

Hey Dee~ I grew up in Macomb Co. Never had to deal with the courts though. I am very familiar with that side of the state. I used to work at St Joseph Hosp. in Pontiac and then down in Southfield at Providence hosp. Manistee is not very far. I am just a little east of Holland. It is a fabulous place to live and even though I have no family here I couldn't leave even after my husband left. My kids were 8y-6y-4y-8weeks old at the time and we have been well cared for by friends at church, co-workers and neighbors. I see you have had another twist in the saga of seeing your husband's kids. I am so sorry. Find things to laugh about whenever you can. colleen

I've lived in different states, but I always came back to MI. Mostly because of family because god knows I could do without the cold weather! It makes me so sad to see summer end. Kind of makes me want to run away to Jamaica or something. lol

But you did give the best advice. I always say if you can't learn to laugh at life it will chew you up and spit you out! lol

Well my hubby just got papers from the court and evidentially his children's mother has filed a motion wanting more child support. So I spent a good amount of time yesterday trying to figure out what form he needed, and was having a heck of a time with it, but finally I found it.

So for those of you who aren't sure where to find these forms, go to http://courts.michigan.gov/scao/courtforms/domesticrelations/drinde... and you will find all the SCAO approved domestic relations forms that you need. From there you can print them off and fill them out OR you can fill them out on-line and then print (just remember when filing them out on-line you cannot save them).

Hope this will help and save you all some time just in case.

HELLO AND WELCOME, I DEALT WITH MICHIGANS CPS AND FAMILY COURTS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING THING. 2 YRS AGO THE TOOK MY CHILDREN AND PLACED THEM WITH THEIR GRANDPARENTS WHO ABUSED THEM AND ALSO ALLOWED THEIR UNCLE TO ABUSE THEM. I FOUGHT THE BATTLE FOR 10 MONTHS AND I WON MY CASE ALONG WITH MY HUSBAND. WE NOW HAVE OUR CHILDREN BACK AND I CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. I TRY TO HELP OUT WHEN I CAN. I AM WILLING TO TAKE A STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. CHILDREN ARE OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT AND LET NO MAN OR COURT TAKE THAT AWAY FROM US. KEEP FIGHTING AND HANG IN THERE. I FOUGHT A BATTLE EVERYONE TOLD ME I WOULD LOSE, BUT I PROVED THEM WRONG, I WON. AND SO CAN OTHERS. AND YES RON SMITH WAS A WONDERFUL MAN. AND HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

Just wanted to let you all know that I ran across this while doing my research and it appears that there will be a NEW 2008 Michigan Child Support Formula Manual which goes into effect October 1, 2008.

Please click to review the NEW 2008 Michigan Child Support Formula Manual.

Hubby read through some of the new manual when he found it a couple days ago, as well as again last night, and for the most part there doesn't seem to be many changes. But I haven't read through much of it myself yet. I went through a few of the sections which pertain to his case now because if I know BM and her lawyer, it will be after October before they get the review so chances are the new manual will apply.

Either way I'm going to make sure hubby is well armed with all the information he needs to get through this review so it doesn't end up like last time.

P.S. I've often joked that I should attempt law school just because I am amazed how much my brain has been able to retain lately. lmao. I somehow don't think the judges, or the world is ready for that though. ;-)
